Parting Quip

Everyone who has been part of the software industry for some time would have certainly seen one or if/she belongs to the greedy(he he) types would have written one themselves. Its usually "inherited" from the seniors in the organization
or during the KT(Knowledge Transfer) sessions where even this document is "handed over" for "future use". Most of them are variations of the one shown below

Hi,

Today is my last day at [Company Name]

I have decided to explore new horizons.

Every moment I spent here will be cherished and remembered.

I will be reachable at my personal email id, [EMAILID].

Warm Regards,
[XYZ]

Incase he/she is not moving to a different company the reason will be "I will be pursuing my higher studies from ABC College".

But last week i came across the best and whackiest reason ever given .

This came from a Top Guy in my company.

This is what he had to say

"will leave to more quickly commit myself to my personal agenda of environmental

policy and search for alternative energy sources, and other issues"
.

This seriously has to win hands down as the best Parting Quip ever .

So now you know what to write if at all you have to.

Here are some more I came up with on the same lines

1.quickly commit myself to my personal agenda of restoring democracy in Pakistan

2.quickly commit myself to my personal agenda of finding solutions for Global Warming

3.quickly commit myself to my personal agenda of restoring the rain forests in Borneo

4.quickly commit myself to my personal agenda of solving Bangalore's traffic problems

5.quickly commit myself to my personal agenda of rooting out corruption in Bihar

6.quickly commit myself to my personal agenda of making India win the Cricket World Cup

7.quickly commit myself to my personal agenda of making India win an Olympic Gold

So next time anybody wants to write a Good Bye mail be at your whackiest best.

Games People Play

Yesterday the biggest sporting event in India concluded.
If any of you were thinking about the Bangalore WTA Open or the India-SL ODI series or the Johnie Walker Gold Cup Polo tournament then I think you will belong to the majority of the people in India.
I was actually referring to the 33rd National Games which involved 11000 athletes
officials and volunteers participating to make it the biggest National Games ever.
The Games went off well without a hitch inspite of pre event terrorist threats and
official apathy.
But even though several records were broken and various sportsmen bettered their own times none of them got any media spotlight or the kind of media coverage expected for an event of this scale.Infact I did not see any of the news channels having even a paltry 5 minute slot to cover the National Games over the past 10 days. The only channel which was showcasing anything regarding the National Games was DD Sports which is a state owned TV channel.
None of the CNN-IBNs NDTVs or TimesNows had daily coverages of the National Games.
If I remember right the only kind of coverage with regards the National Games were the Opening and Closing ceremonies. Why,because they were cultural events involving some well known Bollywood faces.
A non event like Saif Ali Khan being hospitalised is shown as Breaking News with irritating news anchors asking Eye witnesses "What happened to Saif Ali Khan".."Do you think he is out of danger".."What were the peoples reaction when Saif complained of uneasiness ".."What was Saif wearing when he was hospitalised".."Do you think
Saif had eaten Bhelpuri ".
Are these issues of National concern which are to be reported as Breaking News.
These same bloody news channels feel that Rehan Poncha or Richa Mishra breaking 10 year old records in Swimming are not worth reporting.
Shah Rukh Khan's banian clad video of Kar le kar le is shown on News channels as if it were the Prime Ministers Address to the Nation where as
the same banian clad men from Services Boxing team winning gold models seems to be not news worthy.
Anna Nicole Smith's death was reported across all news channels with as much attention as deserving of a head of state. But how many people know that a bus carrying rowers from the Services team suffered an accident right opposite the Games complex in Guwahati and 20 fit athletes were injured before the start of the Games. These are the kind of things which are to be highlighted by the media
not the death of a gold digging model like Anna Nicole Smith.
I think if Indian sports is to reach greater levels then the media should start highlighting and focussing on other sports heroes as well and not only on our cricketing demi gods.Even if the sportsmen dont receive the kind of money associated with cricketers if the media showcases their achievements to the public then these
sportsmen get some kind of recognition for their efforts and sacrifices.
I hope the CNN-IBNs and NDTVs read this and start doing something to give a fillip to our beleagured athletes .

Quest for Eldorado

The past few days I have been wondering where my true love is.
Its like the Quest for Eldorado .
People have searched all their lives for Eldorado but its always been elusive.
Its like searching for a Strawberry in Sambar.
But in my case I am neither looking for Eldorado nor the Strawberry.
So there must be some reasons why I have not been able to find it.
And then I realized the actual cause for me not being able to find my love.
It was because of my obtrusive mail server.
Here is why I call my mail server obtrusive .

P.S : Check the subject of the mail

Govinda Open

The years first tennis grand slam has started and its already making people close their eyes in disbelief.
No there has been no spectacular jawdropping rallies played by any one nor has Sania Mirza done the unthinkable and gone past the second round.
The real reason is the attire worn by many of the players this time.
The flavour of the season this time around seems to be Govinda(nothing to do with him making a 5 minute "comeback" in Bhagam Bhag).
Govinda would have gone hysterical and jumped around in joy looking at the
bright flourescent green, pink and orange skirts worn by the tennis players.
It was not only the women who came up with ostentatious displays of colour
even the men joined in and had their share of Govinda days in the tennis calendar.

Here are some of the "colours" worn by them

Serena Williams

Marat Safin

Maria Sharapova
Hmmm....

Tatiana Golovin

Nicole Vaidisova

So lime is the colour.

Simply Complex

Complex numbers form a very intriguing and interesting group of numbers among
all the different kinds of numbers known to us.
The confusing part of complex numbers come from the fact that they have both real and "imaginary" parts.
Any complex number can be expressed in the form
a + ib where a is the real part and b the imaginary part.
It is this imaginary part of the complex number which lends the complexity to the number.

In this mundane world of ours where every other object is "a copy of a copy of a copy" there are truly very few things or
objects manmade which enchant you first up.For something to make you take notice it should have some very
special features which truly appeal to your senses and make you feel as if its all a dream.
Newton must have felt exhilarated when an Apple fell on his head and made him realize that there is something called gravity
because of which we all can stand on our feet and not drift around like a baloon.I think the same exhilaration is felt in
every carbon life form when they see an Apple iMac or an Apple iBook or the now ubiquitous Apple iPod.

And the common thing in all Apple products is they are all named i(something).

That means they all tickle the imaginary part of our cerebellum.

They all are Complex products
which are truly "imaginary" and whimsical in their features , looks and functionality but are yet so simple .

And now Apple has "Just one more thing......"

The Apple iPhone.

Now this is truly an imaginary phone.

Check out the working of the Apple iPhone here.

You will be truly amazed .
